Walgett Shire is located in the Outback Region of NSW along the banks of the Barwon and Namoi Rivers. The Shire comprises several towns and villages; including Walgett, Lightning Ridge, Collarenebri, Burren Junction, Carinda, Rowena, Pokataroo, Cumborah, Cryon and Come-by Chance, Grawin, Glengarry and Sheepyards and covers an area of approximately 22,000 square kilometres. Each of the towns and villages have their own stories to tell and personalities to meet but the rural charm with country hospitality is found everywhere. The land within the Shire provides an important resource, both for the Shire and the wider region.

Council is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and results focussed Director of Engineering & Technical Services. You will be responsible for planning, leading and managing the delivery of the Engineering/Technical Services Division ensuring that it’s services and deliverables are of the highest possible standard and meet Council’s strategic and operational requirements. You will oversee the management and operation of Civil Engineering Works, Assets management, Traffic Facilities Management, Fleet Management, Parks and Reserves maintenance, Utility Services and Airfields, Saleyards and cemetery maintenance.

To be successful in this role you will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and at least five years’ experience in managing roads, bridges or utilities maintenance or construction with multiple work teams, proven strategic thinking, knowledge of best practice civil construction and maintenance operations, experience in road maintenance and contracting to NSW RMCC, proven leadership skills,  an extensive portfolio of major grant projects across all functional areas and a track record of delivering results.

You will play an integral role in cultural change and improving the organisation’s service to its customers and the community.
