The City Planning branch at Blue Mountains City Council has the exciting and challenging responsibility to deliver high quality strategic land use planning for a City within a World Heritage Area of outstanding natural beauty and value. We have over twenty-five towns and villages, each with a distinct local character and community, that together with our position on the edge of Sydney and within a World Heritage Area, gives rise to strategic planning opportunities truly not offered anywhere else.
One full time position and one part time position for strategic planners are available within the City Planning branch. These positions are open to those just establishing their careers as well as those who have experiences suitable for a more senior role, as well as people with experience in associated fields or disciplines.
Specific action areas for the position include the preparation of masterplans for our key locations, the development of land use planning strategies and plans for the Blue Mountains Local Government Area, and the monitoring and updating of Council’s local planning framework. This also includes working with influencing and guiding groups within Council and external agencies to achieve Council's strategic planning objectives.
Enjoy working in this special place, for this special place, with a team of passionate and creative professionals, where values of environmental leadership, strong urban design and responsible community engagement inform all levels of planning in the branch.
While a tertiary degree in planning is preferred, a successful candidate may also have qualifications from planning aligned industries such as environmental science, engineering, architecture, urban design or other equivalent fields. Your high-level ability in strategic and / or statutory land use policy and processes will be matched by a passion for community engagement and customer service.
You will also be supported by an organisation that has generous leave provisions and believes in looking after staff. As part of this approach, we care about your wellbeing, including providing access to an Employee Assistance Program and a Fitness Program along with other health and wellbeing programs. The organisation also supports individual career development and learning opportunities.
