About Your Position

Burwood Council is seeking an experienced, energetic, customer-focused Traffic and Design Engineer to effectively resolve known traffic, parking and road safety issues in a timely and professional manner.

You will be accountable for investigations, planning, concept development, stakeholder engagement, implementation and administration of traffic and parking solutions to deliver sustainable traffic and transport outcomes for Burwood.

Essential Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications (degree level) in Civil Engineering or Traffic Engineering, and eligible to become a Corporate Member of the Institution of Engineers, Australia.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in Traffic Engineering and Civil Design including practical experience with design software (CAD, AutoTURN etc.)
  • Strong knowledge in traffic management and traffic control, including Local Area Traffic Management, Traffic Calming, developing parking strategies and policies, and Travel Demand management.
  • Working experience in the design of traffic and parking facilities and in the day-to-day management of local traffic issues including participation on local traffic committees.
  • Extensive working knowledge of the TfNSW (formerly Roads and Maritime Services, RMS) and Austroads Guidelines and Australian Standards.
  • Advanced computer literacy, preferably in Microsoft Office and Content Manager, and associated Local Government applications. Demonstrated experience in the use of AutoCAD and GIS software applications.
  • Demonstrated experience in understanding and managing the amenity, complexity, political and legislative environment associated with traffic, parking and transport management.
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment with other staff and consultants.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement innovative solutions and new engineering concepts and procedures.
  • Demonstrated high level verbal and written (English) communication skills, including the preparation, presentation and management of community consultations and Traffic Committee Reports.
  • Current TfNSW Traffic Control accreditation and a current ‘Class C’ Drivers License.

Desirable Criteria

  • Previous Local Government experience
  • Specialist post-graduate qualifications in Traffic and Transportation or similar
