Director People And Performance

Burwood Council Full Time Permanent 12/01/2022

Director People and Performance

  • Inspiring and customer-centric leader
  • Transform people and performance services
  • Help create the future of Burwood

 Burwood Council is undergoing significant transformation, most recently through a major restructure designed to deliver an agile, responsive and community focused organisation that will support changes in the wider community.  The General Manager is now seeking to appoint a Director People and Performance with deep leadership capabilities to mobilise, innovate and foster an agile, diverse and responsive organisation where people are encouraged to be accountable, find solutions and modernise and improve Council operations.

Classified as a strategic centre, Burwood is characterised by a strong economy, excellent transport links, thriving high-streets, a vibrant CBD and cherished historic residential areas.  The LGA is undergoing strong population growth.  The Council has an enviable sustainable financial base.

 As a vital member of Council’s Executive Team, the Director People and Performance will work collaboratively with Councillors, the General Manager and the Executive team to:

  • maximise the benefits of the current restructure by supporting the Executive Team to shape new leaders across the organisation;
  • effectively manage resources, budgets, culture, and people resources to maximise efficiency and effectiveness;
  • modernise systems and processes to support HRIS and payroll systems;
  • energise and enable a small, agile People and Performance team committed to excellence and focused on the customer; and,
  • identify initiatives that will position Burwood Council as an employer of choice.

 With relevant tertiary qualifications, an understanding of Local Government and deep experience in leading and implementing change initiatives, you will have a track record in innovative, agile leadership.  You will have built strong collaborative internal relationships and delivered innovative workforce solutions.  Candidates will have exceptional communications skills, astute political judgement, a strong solutions focus and exceptional people management skills.  The ability to “bring people on the journey” is essential.
