 Wingecarribee Shire Council is undergoing significant transformation in response to new organisational leadership and an informed and engaged community.  After a period of instability, the newly appointed General Manager’s priorities are to rebuild Council’s engagement with the community, enhance service delivery and create a responsive, resilient and agile organisation.  To support these priorities, the General Manager has recently appointed a new Executive Team and is now seeking an experienced professional to lead and drive workforce and workplace strategies to engage, invigorate and enable employee engagement and build capacity across the organisation.

 Wingecarribee Shire Council is located in the beautiful Southern Highlands of NSW.  Covering 2,700 square kilometres and characterised by natural bushland, deep sandstone gorges, and rural landscapes, the Shire is scattered by small towns and villages, many of which are historical and attractive tourist destinations.  In addition to tourism, other economic drivers of the region include agriculture, manufacturing, education, health and construction. 

 Reporting to the General Manager, the Executive Manager People and Culture will work collaboratively with the General Manager and the Executive team deliver an engaged, skilled and agile workforce where innovation and development are valued.  Specifically, the Executive Manager People and Culture will:

  • develop and implement strategies to foster a healthy and productive workplace, embedding organisational values;
  • provide advice to the Executive based on robust data to enable informed decisions;
  • deliver leading HR management and employee experience practices; and,
  • build capacity across the organisation through robust learning and development initiatives.

 With relevant tertiary qualifications, an understanding of Local Government and deep experience in employee engagement and HR practice, you will have a track record in leading cultural change initiatives and in supporting an organisation to become an Employer of Choice.  You will understand the importance of using data and metrics to make informed decisions and will have experience in providing high level advice to an Executive team.  Candidates will have exceptional communications skills to inspire and influence, astute political judgement, will have a strong “can do” attitude and the ability to deliver exceptional customer service.  The ability to develop and nurture effective stakeholder relationships internally is essential.
