Inverell is an attractive and vibrant urban centre in country Northern New South Wales. The Shire of Inverell covers an area of 8,623 square kilometres of rich agricultural land for grain and livestock production. Australia’s fourth largest red meat processor, Bindaree Beef is the Shire’s largest employer. The Shire has a growing renewables sector in its east and our large mineral deposits, particularly tin and sapphires; ensure the area produces the majority of the world’s sapphires. Inverell enjoys four distinct seasons typical of the Northern Tablelands. Its picturesque location, weather, good water supplies and economic prosperity all contribute to making Inverell one of regional New South Wales’ most liveable centres. Inverell has a population of 12,000 people, while the local government area has 16,076 residents. Due to its location, the commercial centre services a target area estimated to reach 60,000 people, drawing from as far as southern Queensland.


Inverell Shire Council seeks to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced senior manager with a proven record of accomplishment who can provide strong leadership and continue to develop the organisation in support of Council’s strategic direction. Reporting directly to the General Manager this role will require significant experience in leading continual operational improvement at a senior management level. You will be able to demonstrate genuine leadership qualities, strategic management skills and an ability to create a capability-based culture.


This position is responsible for managing a range of highly performing multi-disciplined teams and ensuring that Council’s Strategic Plans and objectives are achieved.
