Wollongong City Council is offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Waste + Resource Recovery Manager. Leading a team of professionals and operational staff, you will apply your leadership skills and business acumen to the management of Council's commercial waste arrangements and oversee the daily management of our operational and rehabilitated landfill sites. This position is also responsible for the effective delivery and management of contracted household collections and maximizing resource recovery.
The position requires a high degree of stakeholder engagement combined with strategic, commercial and technical input into achieving the environmental and financial performance outcomes as outlined in the Wollongong Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy 2022 and Wollongong Waste and Resource Recovery Action Plan 2022.
In the first twelve months, you will focus on:
Bringing a commercial approach to the management of Council's waste portfolio including assessing the viability and sustainability of commercial revenue opportunities, generation of economic business growth and strategic decision making.
Operating as a strategic partner to the organisation, integrating business planning and strategy with Waste Services planning.
Reviewing Wollongong Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy 2022, with a focus on contemporising and maximising council's approach to waste and resource recovery.
Providing collaborative leadership and direction to develop a high performing, customer and team focused culture.
Your success in this role will be demonstrated through your ability to lead strategically and achieve commercially sustainable results. You will have strong communication, interpersonal, influencing and negotiation skills with an ability to engage across all levels of the business as well as proven experience in managing change.
