About the role

Alexandrina Council is searching for a qualified, enthusiastic and highly motivated person to join its building team as the Coordinator Building Surveying on a full-time permanent basis. Reporting to the Manager Strategic Development, some of the key responsibilities will be to provide a leadership role to the building assessment team and undertake the delivery of professional and timely assessment and advice on matters that relate to the building elements of the Development Act 1993 and Development Regulations 2008, the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016, and the Building Code of Australia. In delivering this it should be ensured that customer service levels are maintained and Council's vision and attributes are adhered to.


About You

The successful applicant will be a dynamic and adaptable person who is looking to further develop their professional career within Local Government building surveying in a diverse environment. You will have extensive experience in the assessment and approval of a wide range of development applications and demonstrated experience in Building Fire Safety matters. You will be well versed in dealing with public and industry professionals and have sound knowledge in the use of computer based development systems (e.g. GIS) database management and reporting functions. Accreditation as a Building Surveyor (Level 1 or 2 under the National Accreditation Framework) is essential to be considered for this role.


You will also have:

  • Demonstrated ability to provide efficient, proactive, informative and responsive service to all customers, consistent with legislation, regulations, Council policies, vision, aspirations and core values.
  • Experience in supervising staff.
  • Ability to Interpret and apply accurately relevant Acts, Regulations, Standards, Codes and guidelines.
