Employment Status Temporary, full-time (up to 2 years) or the possibility of negotiating for the role to be part time for the successful candidate.
Employment Arrangement 35 hours per week with access to Council’s Agile Work Policy (hours can be less if the successful candidate negotiates part time).
Salary Range For full time appointment commencing from $54,189.20 (Local Government State Award T7 rate) plus 11.5% Superannuation.  Salary would be pro-rata if part time. The successful candidate will have access to T7 to T9 Award increases based on competency assessment and tenure within the position. 

Council Overview

Strathfield Council (Council) is a medium sized Council located in Sydney’s Inner West. The area of the Council comprises approximately 14 square kilometres and has an estimated population of 46,000 residents, which is growing at 2.5-3% annually. Based on NSW Government projections, the population will increase to over 80,000 by 2036.

About the Role

Strathfield Council has a great opportunity for a Cadet Business Support Officer – People & Culture to join our People & Culture team on a temporary, full-time basis (up to 2-year temporary appointment pending the length of study left).

This role is for students currently undertaking a degree in Human Resources Management in the last year, or second last year of study

The role is available due to the Office of Local Government Fresh Start program, which will require appointment requirements to comply with the grant funding.

The Cadet Business Support Officer supports the People & Culture team in delivering key HR and culture-related initiatives that enhance the employee experience and contribute to a positive organisational culture. It also provides generalist support and administrative assistance to the broader human resources function.

This role will be rotating across People & Culture team, and gaining practical, real-world experience across various areas of human resources.

About You

  • Currently undertaking a degree in Human Resources Management in the last year, or second last year of study, with the ability to study part-time.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service with a flexible attitude and ability to use initiative.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and engage with people at all levels.
  • A team-oriented attitude and the ability to collaborate with others to achieve goals.
  • A high level of organisation and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • A proactive approach to learning and a desire to grow within the People & Culture field.
  • Basic computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office), with the ability to learn HR software and tools quickly.
